PayPal can process e-check payments, and this has been a very reliable and convenient payment method for us. It allows us to receive payments without having to visit a bank.

Because processing checks by mail requires additional time and energy, we ask that you please consider using an electronic payment method whenever possible.

However, if you feel most comfortable sending payments by check, we are happy to accommodate you. We simply ask that you follow the guidelines below.

Our Simple Check Policy

We have a strong reputation for being flexible and helping people. At the same time, there are certain things we need to be consistent about because they can create unnecessary costs in both time and money.

Our goal is to make this arrangement simple, manageable, and mutually beneficial for everyone.

1. Send All of Your Checks Together

If you are making monthly payments by check:

• Post-date each check one month apart.
• Place all of your post-dated checks in one envelope.
• Please send the entire series of checks together rather than mailing a new check every month.

This greatly reduces the bookkeeping, mail processing, and administrative time required on our end. It also makes things easier for you because you don’t have to remember to mail another check every month.

2. We Will Honor the Dates on Your Checks

Although we receive the checks in advance, we will only deposit or cash each check according to the date written on it.

We have been doing this for decades and take this commitment seriously.

We ask that you extend the same good-faith commitment to us.

3. Please Communicate With Us Before a Payment Date

Sometimes circumstances change. We understand that.

If you realize that the funds for a scheduled check will not be available when the check is due, please contact us before the date written on the check.

You can call or email us and let us know that you need additional time. We will hold the check until you tell us that the funds are available.

Please do not wait until after a check has been deposited or returned.

Avoiding bounced checks protects both of us from unnecessary bank fees, bookkeeping, and administrative work.

4. Be Honest About What You Can Afford

Please do not knowingly agree to a monthly payment amount that you already know you cannot afford.

Our goal is not to create financial stress for anyone. We would much rather communicate openly and work together on a solution.

No one is turned away.

If you ever feel that your funds are going to be too tight in a particular month, please contact us. If it is urgent or close to another payment date, we recommend both calling and emailing us.

In appropriate circumstances, we would rather consider a Partial or Full Private Grant than have either of us experience unnecessary financial or administrative problems.

The Bottom Line

If you choose to pay by check, please remember:

• ✓ We will deposit each check according to its date.
• ✓ If funds will not be available, contact us before the check date.
• ✓ We will work with you to determine an appropriate solution.

There should never be a need for a bounced check under this program. Communication is the key.
